Inspiration

If you’ve been following my blog or patterns for a while then you know my obsession with the picot single crochet stitch. I first learned it to make my Picot Pillow crochet pattern and loved it so much I’ve been trying to use it for anything and everything I can!

A while ago a designed the Picot Beverage Holder to be used for all sizes of cups and cans. Then had the bright idea to make one specifically for ice cream pints!

Don’t you hate when you’re trying to enjoy your favorite cold treat but your hands are FREEZING from holding onto the ice cream pint container! A crochet ice cream pint holder is the perfect fix!

Yarn

I used Bernat Maker Home Dec Yarn in the color Clay. This yarn really shows off the beautiful texture of the stitches, and comes in so many colors! It is slightly stretchy, making it easy to put the holder on and take it off, and it also feels very soft & comfortable in your hand.

For one ice cream pint holder, you only need about 43 yards of yarn! You could quickly whip these up for craft markets, gifts for friends & family, or just for you!

Notes

  • This pattern will be worked on the ‘wrong side’, meaning the side that is facing you while you are working will be on the inside when we are done. After you tie off your yarn and weave in the ends, flip the holder inside out so that the side with the picot stitches (the bumps) are facing out.
  • The number in parenthesis at the end of each row represents the total number of stitches to be worked in that row.
  • This pattern is joined at the end of each round with a slip stitch. The chain 1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
  • Repeat stitches between the ** until the end of the round or until otherwise stated.

Supplies

Abbreviations (US Terms)

ST(s) – Stitch(es)
SL ST – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
SC FLO – Single Crochet Front Loop Only
PSC – Picot Single Crochet

Special Stitches

Single Crochet Front Loop Only (SC FLO):

The front loop of a stitch is the closest loop to you, the back loop is the loop on the other side of you. For a single crochet front loop only, single crochet working into only the loop closest to you. This will create a ridge/rib around your work.

Picot Single Crochet (PSC):

The PSC will be worked on the wrong side so when the bumps it creates are pushed behind, they will be sticking out on the right side, creating beautiful texture.

Insert your hook into the designated stitch. Pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through the 1st loop on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the 1st loop again. Yarn over and pull through the 1st loop once more. Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook. Push the CH 3 you just created behind and work the next ST.
