Inspiration

If you’re familiar with my work, then you know I have a few (ok, A LOT) of Country Cottage patterns. These patterns all share the same incredible texture that I just love, so I’ve been trying to use it for as many items as I can! Once I find a stitch or texture that I like, I use it to death! I’m not sorry though, because I know you love it too! By alternating double crochet and front post double crochet stitches, you get the most amazing texture and the best part is, it’s so simple to do! Not only that, but it works up quick as well! So my inspiration for the Country Cottage Cozy is the same as my inspirations for all the other Country Cottage patterns, incredible texture, that’s quick and easy!

Sizes

The Country Cottage Cozy pattern includes instructions for a cozy sleeve as well as a cozy with a base/bottom. The circumference of each cozy is approximately 8″, which will fit around both 12oz and 16 oz cups and cans. The height of each cozy is approximately 3.5″, however you can adjust the height of your cozy by repeating the center rounds as many times as needed to reach your desired height.

Yarn

I used Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek in the colors Linen and Mustard for my cozy’s, but you can use any medium (4) weight yarn! Yarn bee Soft & Sleek is super soft and comfortable to hold, but is also very durable, so it works well for a cozy!

Some other acrylic yarns I think would work great are Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn, Red Heart Soft, as well as Vanna’s Choice.

I really enjoyed using Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek yarn for my cozy’s for winter as it helped keep my hands warm, but cotton yarn would be a great option for a cozy that you’ll use in the summer. Cotton is durable and will help absorb some condensation from cold cups or cans, so it would be great if making a cozy for the summer!

Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton, Lily Sugar n’ Cream, and also Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor are my favorite cotton yarns that I think would work great for this cozy for the summer months!

Special Stitches

Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC): Yarn over, insert your hook from the front, around the back, and to the front again, around the post of the next ST, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through last 2 loops.

How to front post double crochet

How to not twist your chain when creating a loop: After creating your chain, remove your hook and insert it through the first chain. Put the last loop back on your hook and pull it through with a slip stitch. Work the 1st stitch of Round 1 into the same chain you joined to.

Working in the back bump of the chain: When looking at your chain from the top, you will see a bump on the back of the chain. Work your stitches in the back bump of the chain, thus creating a nice, clean edge around the bottom of the cozy.

Double Crochet in the Back Loop Only (DC BLO): When looking at your stitch from above, the loop closest to you in the front loop and the one furthest away is the back loop. Double crochet in the back loop only.
