Inspiration
A while ago someone commented on one of my pumpkin YouTube videos asking if I had a leaf pattern to go along with it, and I didn’t! I did have a little leaf pattern included in my crochet apple tutorial though so I linked them there. I decided I should take that little leaf pattern and make it it’s own video so that you could easily find it and use it for whatever project you’d like! As I was making this little leaf though, I realized that it was the perfect size for small fruits, like an apple or small pumpkin, but it was a but TOO small for larger pumpkins.
So that’s why I decided to make a 3 in 1 pattern! I liked the small leaf for smaller items so that’s the half leaf. Then I also added a full leaf without a stem, which I find works great for sewing onto crochet apples or small pumpkins, and then there’s also a full leaf with a stem, which I think is perfect as a leaf appliqué or used to. make a leaf garland!
Leaf Options
As mentioned, this crochet leaf pattern includes 3 different instructions to make 3 different leaves: half leaf, full leaf without a stem, and full leaf with a stem. You can use each of these leaves however you please, but if you need some ideas, here are some suggestions:
- Half Leaf: sew onto small crochet fruits, like apples or pumpkins
- Full Leaf – no stem: sew onto larger crochet fruits, like a pumpkin, or sew onto other projects, like a bag or sweater, as an appliqué.
- Full Leaf – with stem: sew onto projects as an appliqué or string a bunch together to make a garland, which would be perfect for Fall decor!
Yarn
These crochet leaves use medium (4) weight yarn and a 4.00mm (G) crochet hook. I used acrylic yarn but you can use any fiber you want! I used yarn I already had in my stash so each colored leaf is made with a different brand of yarn.
The green leaves are made with I Love This Yarn in the color Light Sage, if you don’t have this yarn available to you or want a suitable substitute, try Red Heart Super Saver in the color Light Sage. I also used Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe Mocha and Red Heart Super Saver in Carrot for the brown and orange leaves and it worked great!
For my yellow leaves I used Lion Brand Yarn Color Theory in the color Bee Pollen. Other yarn’s I think would also work great are Lion Brand Yarn Basic Stitch and Lion Brand Yarn Wool Ease.
Each leaf measures approximately 2″ across and uses less than 2 yards of yarn. These are perfect project for those small, left over strands of yarn you may have laying around!
