yarn

For my Easy Breezy Super Chunky Bun Beanie I used Lion Brand Yarn Wool Ease Thick and Quick in the color Butterscotch. This yarn is so soft and squishy! All sizes should be able to be worked up with less than 1 skein of this yarn.

Lion Brand Yarn Wool Ease Thick and Quick is available in a variety of gorgeous color ways. There are solid colors and variegated ones as well. Be sure to keep an eye out on the Lion Brand Yarn website as they have sales quite often, and you can also usually find this yarn at Joann stores, Michaels, Walmart, and Amazon.

Sizes

This crochet bun beanie crochet pattern includes 4 sizes: child (3-10 years), teen/adult small, adult medium, and adult large. See the size chart below for full measurement details and yarn yardage for each size. You can easily adjust the length and width though to be perfect for you!

To adjust the length of the beanie and brim, simply make the chain off the ring longer/shorter.

To adjust the hat circumference, add or subtract rows to get your desired size. Be sure you always end on an even numbered row.

It is always best to check your gauge before stating a new project to ensure proper sizing. A gauge pattern is provided below. Please take a few minutes before starting your beanie to check your gauge and adjust either your tension or hook size if needed.

NOTES

  • The CH 1 at the beginning of each row and the SL ST around the loop do NOT count as stitches. Work the first HDC of the row into the last HDC from the previous row.
  • The numbers in parenthesis at the beginning of a row represent the number of chains or rows that need to be worked for each size. The number in parenthesis at the end of each row represents the total number of stitches to be worked in each row. The smallest size will be first, followed by the next sizes up.
  • The pattern is written to create a brim approximately 2” tall. To adjust the length of the beanie and brim, simply make the chain off the ring longer/shorter.
  • The pattern is written to create a hat circumference approximately 1-2” smaller than the head circumference. If you would like to make the hat circumference smaller or larger, simply add or subtract rows to get your desired size. Be sure you always end on an even numbered row.
  • For Step One, you can either use a hair elastic OR make a yarn chain. Using a hair elastic will be stretchier and keep it’s stretch for longer. A yarn chain will match the color of the beanie, not be noticeable, and the size can be adjusted.
