Inspiration

As someone who wears their hair in a messy bun 95% of the time, I knew I needed to make a bun beanie version of the Easy Breezy Beanie pattern! I absolutely love wearing beanies to keep my head warm in the colder months, so this gives me the best of both worlds!

EASY BREEZY COLLECTION

At this moment the Easy Breezy Collection consists of 6 patterns! There are 5 beanie patterns: the Easy Breezy Ribbed BeanieEasy Breezy Chunky BeanieEasy Breezy Super Chunky BeanieEasy Breezy Bun Beanie, and the Easy Breezy Chunky Bun Beanie. Then there is one scarf/cowl pattern, the Easy Breezy Scarf.

There are two bun beanies, the Easy Breezy Bun Beanie and the Easy Breezy Chunky Bun Beanie, which have holes on the top so you can fit your ponytail or bun through! They’re the perfect beanie for anyone who wants to keep their head warm but their hair up! There are 3 regular beanies the Easy Breezy Ribbed BeanieEasy Breezy Chunky BeanieEasy Breezy Super Chunky Beanie. Each of these beanies use a different weight of yarn so you can make a beanie no matter what yarn is in your stash or what thickness of beanie you want!

Is there any other patterns you’d like me to add to the Easy Breezy Collection? Let me know what else you’d like to see! I love making these simple yet beautiful patterns and would love to add onto the collection!

Sizes

The Easy Breezy Bun Beanie pattern includes instructions for 4 sizes: child, teen/adult small, adult medium, and adult large. You can adjust the pattern to be any size you’d like though! Work as many starting chains to get the length you want for your beanie and work as many rows as you need. See the size chart below for the measurements to each size.

Difficulty

Gauge

14 stitches by 9 rows in HDC BLO = 4”by 4” square.
Adjust hook size up or down to meet gauge.

Notes

  • Instructions are for the smallest size first, followed by the next sizes up in parenthesis.
  • The pattern is written to create a brim approximately 2” tall. To adjust the height of the beanie and the height of the brim, simply make your initial chain longer or shorter.
  • The pattern is written to create a hat circumference approximately 5” smaller than the head circumference to make up for stretching. If you would like to make the hat circumference smaller or larger, simply add or subtract rows. Be sure you always end on a Row 4 (the opposite end of the bun hole).
  • The CH 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch throughout the whole pattern. At the end of each row, chain 1 and turn, work the first stitch into the last HDC from the previous row.
  • The number in parenthesis at the end of each row represents the total number of stitches to be worked in each row. The smallest size will be first, followed by the next sizes up. The SC around the center does not count as a ST.

  • Hi there! I love this hat!! I am literally teaching myself to crochet with this pattern, with that being said, I have a #6 yarn that I am in love with and I HAVE to make this hat with it. Any suggestions as to what size hook I should use, or if I should change up the count? I know that this is a pain in the bottom question. I am pretty good at changing up with knitting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Hi Jenni! Check out the pattern I have on here for the Easy Breezy Chunky Bun Beanie, it uses a bulky (5) weight yarn so I would say you’d only need to go down 1-2 hook sizes to reach proper gauge, or minus a few stitches and rows. I think your best best is to just measure the hat as you go to reach the size you want, but it should totally work with the yarn you have! Hope this helps!

    • Thank you so much Judy! I do not have a fingerless glove pattern at this time, but that’s a great idea!
