Design Inspiration

The romaine lettuce leaf is the 23rd pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! Romaine lettuce is approximately the same size as a baby at 36 weeks of pregnancy! Not only is this a cute addition for tracking your pregnancy, you can also use these as kids play food!

Notes

● Repeat instructions given between asterisks (*) until the end of each row or until instructed
● The number in parenthesis at the end of each row states the total number of stitches to be worked in that row
● Finished size is approximately 8″ long and 3″ wide

Supplies

● Medium (4) Weight Yarn
            Green (25 yards) & White (5 yards)
● Hook: 4.00 mm (G)
● Black embroidery or crochet thread for face (optional)
Yarn Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations/Stitches (US Terms)

ST(s) – Stitch(es)
CH – Chain
SL ST – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
TR – Triple Crochet

Pattern

Starting with White

CH 25

Row 1: HDC in 3rd CH from the hook. HDC in each CH across, change to Green on the last pull through of the last HDC. (23)

Row 2: CH 2 & turn. *HDC, DC, TR, DC* repeat until 3 STs remain. HDC, DC, 4 TR. Turn leaf clockwise, and continue working along the other side. 4 TR into the first ST, *DC, HDC, DC, TR* repeat until 2 STs remain. DC, HDC. (52)

Row 3: CH 2 & turn. *HDC, DC, 2 TR, DC* repeat 5 more times. Work 2 TR in each of the next 4 STs. *DC, 2 TR, DC, HDC* repeat 5 more times. (68)

Tie off and weave in all ends.
OPTIONAL: Use the black embroidery thread to make a face.
