Design Inspiration

This scallion is the 13th pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! A scallion is approximately 14″ long, the same size as a baby at 26 weeks of pregnancy! Not only is this scallion a cute addition for tracking your pregnancy, it would also make an adorable toy for your kids or pets!

Notes

  • The main body is worked in the round. Do not join at the end of each round, work the first ST into the fist ST of the previous round. Use a stitch marker to keep proper count.
  • Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) until the end of each round
  • The number in parenthesis at the end of each round states the total number of stitches for that round
  • Final size is approximately 14 inches

Supplies

  • Medium (4) weight yarn in White, Light Green, Dark Green, and Light Brown
  • Hook: 4.00mm (G)
  • Polyester Fiber Fill
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker
  • 2 6 mm Safety Eyes (Optional)
  • Black Crochet Thread (Optional)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

ST(s) – Stitch(es)
CH – Chain
SL ST – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
SC2TOG – Single Crochet Two Together

Changing Color

On the final pull through of the last SC at the end of the round, drop your current color and pick up the next. Pull through with the new color and SL ST into the first SC of the previous round. Cut the previous color and tie to the tail end of the new color to secure.

Pattern

(with White)

Magic Circle, CH 1

Round 1: SC x7 inside of circle (7)
Round 2: SC in each ST around (7)
Round 3: 2 SC in each ST around (14)
Round 4: *1 SC in 1st ST, 2 SC in next* (21)
Rounds 5-8: SC in each ST around (21)
Round 9: *SC in 1st ST, SC2TOG* (14)
Rounds 10-11: SC in each ST around (14)

Switch to Light Green

Rounds 12-15: SC in each ST around (14)

Switch to Dark Green

Round 16: SC in each ST around (14)

Round 17: SC2TOG x7 in the back loop only (7)

SL ST to the first front loop.

*CH 35 and SC in the 2nd CH from the hook. SC in each CH down. (34)

SK the next ST and SL ST into the next front loop.*

Repeat ** 6 more times.

SL ST to the the top center of the main body of the scallion. Tie off leaving a 6” tail. Weave tail into the final 7 STs, pull tight to close up hole. Secure with a few knots and weave in end.

With Light Brown yarn, cut 3 pieces approximately 4”. Fold in half and loop each piece through the bottom on the scallion. Spilt yarn and trim if necessary.
