Design Inspiration

This grapefruit is the tenth pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! A grapefruit weighs approximately 1 pound, the same size as a baby at 23 weeks of pregnancy! Not only is this grapefruit a cute addition for tracking your pregnancy, it would also make an adorable toy for your kids or pets!

Notes

  • Pattern is worked in the round. Use stitch marker to keep proper stitch count
  • Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) until the end of each round
  • The number in parenthesis at the end of each round states the total number of stitches for that round
  • Final size is approximately 6 inches

Supplies

  • Medium (4) weight yarn in Orange or Pink, Yellow, and White
  • Hook: 4.00mm (G)
  • Polyester Fiber Fill
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker
  • 2 10mm Safety Eyes (Optional)
  • Black Crochet Thread (Optional)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

ST(s) – Stitch(es)
CH – Chain
SL ST – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet

Changing Color

On the final pull through of the last SC at the end of the round, drop your current color and pick up the next. Pull through with the new color and SL ST into the first SC of the previous round. Cut the previous color and tie to the tail end of the new color to secure.

(with white) Magic Circle, CH 1

Round 1: SC x7 inside of circle (7)

Change to Pink/Orange

Round 2: 2 SC in each ST around (14)
Round 3: *SC in 1st ST, 2 SC in next* (21)
Round 4: *SC in 1st 2 STs, 2 SC in next* (28)
Round 5: *SC in 1st 3 STs, 2 SC in next* (35)
Round 6: *SC in 1st 4 STs, 2 SC in next* (42)
Round 7: *SC in 1st 5 STs, 2 SC in next* (49)
Round 8: *SC in 1st 6 STs, 2 SC in next* (56)
Round 9: *SC in 1st 7 STs, 2 SC in next* (63)
Round 10: *SC in 1st 8 STs, 2 SC in next* (70)

SL ST to 1st SC and tie off.
To create segments: weave white yarn through each round to create a straight line from the middle to the outside. Repeat for a total of 7 segments. Secure ends with a knot on the back side.

Add the eyes between rounds 5 & 6. With the crochet thread, make a “v” shape for the mouth centered between the eyes and 1 ST down.

Do not tie off. Place the front of the grapefruit underneath the back with the right side facing out. SC the two pieces together, working 1 SC in each ST around. Stuff with fiber fil as you go. SL ST to the 1st SC, tie off and weave in end.
