Design Inspiration

This corn on the cob is the 11th pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! A ear of corn is approximately the same size as a baby at 24 weeks of pregnancy, meauring about 12″ long! Not only is this corn a cute addition for tracking your pregnancy, it would also make an adorable toy for your kids or pets!

Notes

  • Pattern is worked in the round. Use stitch marker to keep proper stitch count
  • Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) until the end of each round
  • The number in parenthesis at the end of each round states the total number of stitches for that round
  • Final size is approximately 12 inches

Supplies

  • Medium (4) weight yarn in Yellow and Green
  • Hook: 4.00mm (G)
  • Polyester Fiber Fill
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker
  • 2 10mm Safety Eyes (Optional)
  • Black Crochet Thread (Optional)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

ST(s) – Stitch(es)
CH – Chain
SL ST – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
SC2TOG – Single Crochet Two Together
DC – Double Crochet
DC2TOG – Double Crochet Two Together

Pattern

Main (with yellow)

At the end of each round, do not join. Work the first ST into the first ST of the previous round. Use a stitch marker to keep proper stitch count.

Magic Circle, CH 1

Round 1: SC x7 inside of circle (7)
Round 2: 2 SC in each ST around (14)
Round 3: *1 SC in 1st ST, 2 SC in next* (21)
Round 4: *1 SC in 1st 2 STs, 2 SC in next* (28)
Round 5: *1 SC in 1st 3 STs, 2 SC in next* (35)
Rounds 6-46: SC in each ST around (35)

Round 47: *SC in 1st 3 STs, SC2TOG* (28)
Round 48: SC in each ST around (28)

Add eyes between rounds 28 & 29. With crochet thread, make a “V” shape centered between the eyes and 1 ST down for the smile. Stuff corn with FiberFil.

Round 49: *SC in 1st 2 STs, SC2TOG* (21)
Round 50: *SC in 1st ST, SC2TOG* (14)
Round 51: SC in each ST around (14)
Round 52: SC2TOG x7 (7)
Rounds 53-54: SC in each ST around (7)

Tie off leaving 6” tail. Weave tail through last 7 STs, pull tight and secure with a knot. Weave in ends.

Husk (with green)

At the end of each round, join to the first ST of the previous round with a SL ST, then CH 2. The CH 2 does not count at a ST.

Magic Circle, CH 2

Round 1: DC x10 inside circle (10)
Round 2: 2 DC in each ST around (20)
Rounds 3-10: DC in each ST around (20)

Round 11: DC2TOG, DC in next 6 STs, DC2TOG (8) CH 2 and turn.
Round 12: DC2TOG, DC in next 4 STs, DC2TOG (6) CH 2 and turn.
Round 13: DC2TOG, DC in next 2 STs, DC2TOG (4) CH 2 and turn.
Rounds 14-15: DC in each ST across (4) CH 2 and turn.
Round 16: DC2TOG x2 (2) CH 2 and turn.
Rounds 17-18: DC in each ST across (2) CH 2 and turn.
Round 19: DC2TOG (1)

CH 1 and Tie off. Attach yarn to the next ST of round 11 and repeat rounds 11-19 to create to leaves peeling down.

After the 2nd leaf is complete, do not tie off. SC a boarder around both leaves to clean up the edges. Work 1 SC in each row, tie off, and weave in all ends.
