Crochet Cabbage Pattern

Design Inspiration
This cabbage is the 17th pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! A cabbage is approximately 3 lbs, the same size as a baby at 30 weeks of pregnancy! Not only is this a cute addition for tracking your pregnancy, it would also make an adorable toy for your kids or pets!
Notes
● Pattern is worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to keep proper count.
● Repeat instructions given between asterisks (*) until the end of each round
● The number in parenthesis at the end of each round states the total number of stitches for that round
● Completed size is approximately 6 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall.
Supplies
● Medium (4) Weight Yarn in Green
● Hook: 4.00 mm (G)
● Polyester Fiber Fill for stuffing
● 2 10 mm Safety Eyes (optional)
● Black embroidery or crochet thread for mouth (optional)
● Yarn Needle
● Scissors
● Stitch Marker
Abbreviations/Stitches (US Terms)
ST – Stitch
SL ST – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
HDC – Half Double Crochet
HDC2TOG –Half Double Crochet Two Together
Pattern
Main Body
Magic Circle, CH 1
Round 1: HDC x7 inside circle (7)
Round 2: 2 HDC in each ST around (14)
Round 3: *1 HDC in 1st ST, 2 HDC in next* (21)
Round 4: *1 HDC in 1st 2 STs, 2 HDC in next* (28)
Round 5: *1 HDC in 1st 3 STs, 2 HDC in next* (35)
Rounds 6-9: HDC in each ST around (35)
Add eyes between rounds 2 & 3. With crochet thread, make a “V” shape centered between the eyes for the smile.
Round 10: *HDC in 1st 3 STs, HDC2TOG* (28)
Round 11: *HDC in 1st 2 STs, HDC2TOG* (21)
Round 12: *HDC in 1st ST, HDC2TOG* (14)
Stuff with Fiber Fill
Round 13: HDC2TOG x7 (7)
Tie off leaving 6” tail. Weave tail through the last 7 Sts and pull tight. Secure with a few tight knots and weave in ends.
Leaves (make 6)
Magic Circle, CH 1
Round 1: HDC x8 inside circle (8)
Round 2: 2 HDC in each ST (16)
Round 3: *HDC in 1st ST, 2 HDC in next* (24)
Round 4: *HDC in 1st 2 STs, 2 HDC in next* (32)
Round 5: *HDC in 1st 3 STs, 2 HDC in next* (40)
Tie off leaving 10” tail for sewing.
Assembly
Sew 3 leaves equally around the ball, working approximately 10 stitches around the bottom of the leaf to the ball. Layer the next 3 leaves over top the spaces of the previous 3 leaves and sew on the same, working approximately 15 stiches around the bottom of the leaf. Leaves should be able to move and bend at the top and be secure on the bottom, to make tighter or looser sew more or less stitches.
