Design Inspiration

This eggplant is the 15th pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! An eggplant is approximately 2.25 lbs, the same size as a baby at 28 weeks of pregnancy! Not only is this a cute addition for tracking your pregnancy, it would also make an adorable toy for your kids or pets!

Notes

● Pattern is worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to keep proper count.
● Repeat instructions given between asterisks (*) until the end of each round
● The number in parenthesis at the end of each round states the total number of stitches for that round
● Final size is approximately 8 inches

Supplies

● Medium (4) Weight Yarn in Purple & Green
● Hook: 4.00 mm (G)
● Polyester Fiber Fill for stuffing
● 2 10 mm Safety Eyes (optional)
● Black embroidery or crochet thread for mouth (optional)
● Stitch Marker
● Yarn Needle
● Scissors

Abbreviations/Stitches (US Terms)

ST – Stitch
SL ST – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
SC2TOG –Single Crochet Two Together


Eggplant Pattern

Main Body (with purple)

Magic Circle, CH 1

Round 1: SC x6 inside circle (6)
Round 2: 2 SC in each ST around (12)
Round 3: *1 SC in 1st ST, 2 SC in next* (18)
Round 4: *1 SC in 1st 2 STs, 2 SC in next* (24)
Round 5: *1 SC in 1st 3 STs, 2 SC in next* (30)
Round 6: *1 SC in 1st 4 STs, 2 SC in next* (36)
Rounds 7-11: SC in each ST around (36)
Round 12: *SC in 1st 4 STs, SC2TOG* (30)
Rounds 13-17: SC in each ST around (30)
Round 18: *SC in 1st 3 STs, SC2TOG* (24)
Rounds 19-25: SC in each ST around (24)

Add eyes between rounds 20 & 21. With crochet thread, make a “V” shape centered between the eyes for the smile.

Round 26: *SC in 1st 2 STs, SC2TOG* (18)
Round 27: SC in each ST around (18)
Round 28: *SC in 1st ST, SC2TOG* (12)

Stuff with Fiber Fill

Round 29: SC in each ST around (12)
Round 30: SC2TOG x6 (6)

Tie off leaving 6” tail. Weave tail through last 6 STs, pull tight and secure with a knot. Weave in ends.

Leaf Topper (with Green)

Magic Circle, CH 1

Round 1: SC x6 inside circle (6)
Round 2: 2 SC in each ST around (12)
Round 3: *1 SC in 1st ST, 2 SC in next* (18)
Round 4: *1 SC in 1st 2 STs, 2 SC in next* (24)
Round 5: SC in each ST around (24)
Round 6: *SC in next 4 STs, CH 1 and turn. SC2TOG x 2, CH 1 and turn. SC2TOG, CH 1 and turn, SC, CH 1 and turn. SL ST down the side.* Repeat 5 more times.

Tie off and weave in ends.

Stem (with Green)

CH 5. Tie off leaving long tail. Pull the tail ends of the stem through the top of the leaf topper. Sew the leaf topper onto the eggplant. Weave in ends.
