Butternut Squash Crochet Pattern

Design Inspiration
This squash is the 16th pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! A butternut squash is approximately 2.5 lbs, the same size as a baby at 29 weeks of pregnancy! Not only is this a cute addition for tracking your pregnancy, it would also make an adorable toy for your kids or pets!
Notes
● Pattern is worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to keep proper count.
● Repeat instructions given between asterisks (*) until the end of each round
● The number in parenthesis at the end of each round states the total number of stitches for that round
● Final size is approximately 8 inches
Supplies
● Medium (4) Weight Yarn in Light Brown & Dark Brown
● Hook: 4.00 mm (G)
● Polyester Fiber Fill for stuffing
● 2 10 mm Safety Eyes (optional)
● Black embroidery or crochet thread for mouth (optional)
● Yarn Needle
● Scissors
● Stitch Marker
Abbreviations/Stitches (US Terms)
ST – Stitch
SL ST – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
SC2TOG –Single Crochet Two Together
Changing Color
On the final pull through of the last ST, drop your current color and pick up the next. Pull through with the new color and continue onto the next round.

Main Body (with Light Brown)
Magic Circle, CH 1
Round 1: SC x7 inside circle (7)
Round 2: 2 SC in each ST around (14)
Round 3: *1 SC in 1st ST, 2 SC in next* (21)
Round 4: *1 SC in 1st 2 STs, 2 SC in next* (28)
Round 5: *1 SC in 1st 3 STs, 2 SC in next* (35)
Round 6: *1 SC in 1st 4 STs, 2 SC in next* (42)
Round 7: *1 SC in 1st 5 STs, 2 SC in next* (49)
Rounds 8-17: SC in each ST around (49)
Round 18: *SC in 1st 5 STs, SC2TOG* (42)
Round 19: SC in each ST around (42)
Add eyes between rounds 14 & 15. With crochet thread, make a “V” shape centered between the eyes for the smile.
Round 20: *SC in 1st 4 STs, SC2TOG* (35)
Round 21: SC in each ST around (35)
Round 22: *SC in 1st 3 STs, SC2TOG* (28)
Rounds 23-33: SC in each ST around (28)
Round 34: *SC in 1st 2 STs, SC2TOG* (21)
Round 35: SC in each ST around (21)
Round 36: *SC in 1st ST, SC2TOG* (14)
Change color to Dark Brown and stuff with Fiber Fill.
Round 37: SC2TOG x7 (7)
Rounds 38-40: SC in each ST around (7)
